SUPPORTING INNOVATION
Art museums are facing many challenges and cannot succeed by relying solely on the practices of the past. Visitation (on average) remains below pre-2020 levels; large-scale federal relief programs have ended (and most funds have been spent); and expenses continue to rise, driven by inflation and the desire (and pressure) to increase staff compensation.
As a result, museums need more solutions of all kinds: more support for innovative ideas; more tools to inform better business practices; and more opportunities to work through all of these challenges (and possible solutions) with peers. Remuseum seeks to offer all of those forms of support, by celebrating champions of innovation, by offering resources and tools to help museums manage their resources better and thrive, and by connecting leaders who can share and support each other.
Case Studies IN Innovation: ACCESS
American art museums are driven by a passion to serve and engage the public with art, and for most of them that means increasing the number and range of visitors they attract. For a number of reasons, the drive to expand access and to attract broader audiences faces several obstacles, including a lack of both data and sustained examples of how best to do this work.
“Case Studies in Innovation” is a series of reports on the topics of Access, Audience Development, and Marketing – sharing best practices and examples of how museums could attract the largest audiences possible, and how to do so sustainably and true to their missions.
“Access”, the first report in this series, is available now.

Webinars
Remuseum is focused on helping museums enhance their financial sustainability and relevance and supporting more innovation in service of their missions. That’s why we present free online sessions with experts on museum practices, open to all.
Champions of Innovation
Remuseum will share information and support for innovative museum efforts that expand relevance and audiences, support financial sustainability, and support innovation in shared governance between museum leaders and boards.

Convenings
Remuseum gathers museums leaders and trustees to discuss specific themes and projects. These convenings encourage mutual support between institutions and offer Remuseum ideas for the kinds of innovation and business practices that deserve more attention and support.
